For nearly two decades, Invisalign has been one of the most common options for straightening teeth without braces. While it remains a reliable treatment, advances in orthodontic technology have made it possible to create more customized and efficient clear aligner options. This includes in-office designed clear aligners made directly in Tarrytown.

The Benefits of Clear Aligners

With clear aligner treatment, the orthodontist is responsible for the treatment plan and overall outcome, while the aligners are produced based on that plan. This allows for full control over the process from start to finish, with the goal of improving efficiency and personalization. Benefits include:

  • Improved Aesthetics – Advanced thermoplastic materials are designed to be clear and smooth, making the aligners less visible when worn.
  • More Comfortable and Better Fit – The smoother material and precise digital manufacturing process contribute to improved comfort and fit.
  • More Eco-Friendly – Producing aligners locally reduces shipping and handling steps, lowering overall environmental impact.
  • Faster Turnaround – Aligners produced in-office can often be ready within one to two weeks, compared to longer external production timelines.
  • More Personalized – Treatment is fully customized, with the ability to adjust plans and refine aligners throughout the process as needed. Limited or targeted treatment options can also be designed while maintaining a stable bite.
  • Specialist-Led Treatment Planning – Treatment planning and aligner design are guided by orthodontic expertise, with adjustments made directly during the process when necessary.
  • Direct Support – Questions, concerns, or replacement needs are handled directly through the same source managing the treatment.
  • Better Overall Outcomes – The combination of planning, customization, and in-house production supports efficient and predictable results.

Clear Aligner Process

Step 1: Evaluation and 3D Oral Scan

An initial evaluation includes digital x-rays and a comprehensive exam. Once treatment is planned, a 3D scan of the teeth is taken using the iTero® or TRIOS® scanner, eliminating the need for traditional impression materials.

Step 2: 3D Digital Design

A digital model of the teeth is created, and each tooth movement is mapped out in detail to design a customized treatment plan.

Step 3: 3D Printing

Instead of outsourcing production, the aligners are manufactured in-office using 3D printing technology.

Step 4: Aligners Fabrication and Delivery

The aligners are finished, polished, and prepared for use within approximately one to two weeks before being provided to the patient.

Step 5: Wearing Aligners

Aligners are typically worn about 22 hours per day and changed every one to two weeks, with periodic check-ins to monitor progress.

Step 6: Maintaining Results

Once treatment is complete, retainers are used to maintain the final results and help preserve the new smile over time.
